The first time I ate Okonomiyaki was in Tokyo, and my host tried to explain it to me by comparing it to pizza. While round, okonomiyaki is a different dish entirely, and Juu serves up this delicious Osaka-Kansai dish in style.
Quite the dining experience, you can opt to cook it up yourself (recommended!) by sitting at one of the tables equipped with a built-in hotplate. The ingredients are brought to your table in a bowl, which you drop onto the hotplate, flatten with special utensils, and grill. Okonomiyaki literally means "What you like, grilled" and there is a variety of okonomiyaki to be had, most have a batter and cabbage base to which is added vegetables, pork, shrimp, cheese, mochi, etc. You'll need a car to get there from any of Niseko's resorts, but it is worth the trip. English menus available. |
